Blogs (web logs) are all the rage. Many of my clients have or plan to start blogs.
Will they get you noticed?
Yes & no…But, I always give a word of warning-just like in email-don’t put anything in your blog you wouldn’t want "found".
Search engines like blogs-the fresh content makes searches on you, your topic, title of blog…easily findable. Is this good-it could be-employers can review any writings you’ve done, can see how you write, how technologically savvy you are…
But, blogs can be bad-"TMI"-too much information out there! Are you trashing your ex, commenting on latest skin flick or yodeling with your dog? Don’t laugh, that last one really is "out there". Take it seriously, think how potential employers might view your 21st birthday bash!
Folks have been hired & fired from the employer reading their blog. A lay person in a supervisory position was on a gay blog site…Another PR professional was googled, the employer read a few intelligent entries on PR field-hired her after 10 minutes and sent an email to the staff to read her blog before meeting the new hire!
